Benefits of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL)

Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) is a durable, high-strength, engineered type of plywood that is widely used in construction and furniture – from beams, frames and lintels to truss chords, formwork, bed slats and sofa frames – in both homes and public buildings. Benefits of LVL has made it a popular construction material in daily life.

Difference between conventional lumber and LVL

While conventional lumber use solid sawn timber, LVL is formed from multiple layers of veneers (thin wood sheets) that are bonded together under heavy-duty glue and pressure. The grain of veneers is placed parallel to all of other slices of wood. Instead of individual slabs, LVL is produced in wide section called billets. These billets will be sawn into section with thick and wide as customers’ request.

At Weego, we can supply LVL with dimension as below:

– Width: up to 1200 mm

– Length: up to 4100 mm

– Thickness: 7 – 40mm

The unique engineering and veneer structure of LVL strengthens its structural properties. LVL plywood has a number of benefits thanks to its specific engineering process.

Benefits of LVL

As LVL has veneer arranged in the same direction, it is highly uniform and can support heavy loads in both commercial and industrial settings. Moreover, due to the emphasis placed on the quality bonding in LVL, there are no naturally occurring knots. Instead, knots are dispersed over laminates, which helps remove specific weak points from the bigger timber sheets.  LVL’s manufacturing process also reduces other natural flaws related to solid timber such as twists and shakes that affect its overall durability. It means that LVL is not only stronger but also less prone to warping and shrinking.

In general, LVL has some key benefits as follows:

  • Available in any dimension (cut-to-size)
  • Highly durable
  • Quick and easy to install
  • Less prone to warping or shrinking
  • Lightweight
  • Cost-effective

If you are working on your home projects, woodworking or building construction, we highly recommend using LVL. Laminated Veneer Lumber can be used for construction, bed slats, sofa frame, dinning table, kitchen cabinet, etc. Its flexibility and pliableness makes LVL ideal for complex architectural projects!
